Overview

This fund gives investors access to the handful of innovative companies leading the revolution in semiconductor technology — a key component in almost all electronic devices, and new technology like AI and electric cars.

This fund provides a passive investment into these companies, and was the first semiconductor fund available to European investors.

Sector exposure

This fund is exposed to a  single thematic sector — semiconductors. The MVIS US Listed Semiconductor 10% Capped Index weights companies based on their size, and they must derive more than 50% of their revenue from the semiconductor industry. Companies are capped at a 10% weighting in the index.

Companies are excluded from the index if they severely violate the UN Global Compact Principles or derive any revenue from Controversial Weapons. Exclusions also apply if a company derives more than 5% of revenue from potentially harmful industries.

Thematic

This is primarily a thematic fund, as it targets a specific investment theme. It does track an index, making it a passively managed fund, but there are parameters for companies to be included in the index.

Thematic investments don’t tend to give broad market exposure on their own, so should form part of a diverse portfolio.

Semiconductor Fund FAQ's

Is it too late to invest in semiconductors?

Not necessarily. Whilst the sector has seen strong growth in recent years, the applications of semiconductors are still at the heart of new technology. Recently, developments in AI, cloud computing, electric vehicles and automations have been driving recent demand.

Are semiconductors a risky investment?

Thematic investments are generally considered more volatile than a broad market investment. Investing through a semiconductor ETF such as this one can offer some diversification, as your investment is spread between 25 companies. Thematic investments such as this can fluctuate based on global demand, technological changes, supply chain issues, and geopolitical factors.

Does this ETF pay dividends?

No. This is an accumulating fund, meaning any returns generated are automatically reinvested for you. This investment type could be suitable for investors seeking long-term growth on their investment.

Are semiconductors a good investment?

Semiconductors are an essential part of the supply chain in tech production. Investing through an ETF can offer diversified access to global chipmakers.

As a thematic sector, semiconductors can be sensitive to changes in supply and demand, so it's important to consider your risk tolerance and long-term goals.
