We found a bug on the iOS version of Chip

Here’s what you can do if you’re affected by it

We’re aware of a bug affecting some Chip members with iOS (Apple) devices, where the app won’t properly open.

We have managed to fix the underlying issue but the only way we can resolve it needs affected people to uninstall and reinstall their app.

This is a visual ‘front-end’ issue only, and your Chip account and balance has not been affected. Once you reinstall Chip you’ll find everything just as you left it.

If you can’t open your Chip app…

  • Uninstall the Chip app by touching and holding the app on your Home Screen, then tapping “Remove App” then “Delete App”
  • Head to the App Store and reinstall Chip
  • Confirm your identity when logging in using your phone number
  • You’ll find your Chip account and balance just as you left it

What happened and how we fixed it

And what we’re doing to make sure it won't happen again

The underlying cause of this bug was one of our technology partners deploying a change to their code last week without our knowledge, which interacted with the latest version of Chip for iOS (4.81.0), causing the app to crash on open.

We promptly deployed a new version of the app (4.82.0) which worked for the majority of iOS Chip members.

However, today we discovered some Chip members are still having an issue accessing their apps. We managed to find and deploy a solution to this, but it needs affected Chip members to uninstall and reinstall their app.

We take issues like this extremely seriously, and are currently undertaking a full investigation and working with our technology partners to ensure something like this can’t happen again.
