We are making some changes to keep your app secure.

As a result, we can no longer support Chip on older versions of Apple and Android’s Operating System (OS). 

As of Tuesday 6 October 2026, Chip will only run on OS versions;

• iOS 17 and above (iPhone)
• Android 10 and above (Google, Samsung, Motorola etc)

Who does this affect?

‍

This is most likely to affect you if your phone is around eight to ten years old, or if you don't have automatic OS updates switched on. If either of those sounds like you, it's worth checking your current OS version before 6 October 2026.

What happens if I don't update?

‍

Chip can currently only be accessed through the app, so if you don't update by 6 October 2026, you won't be able to log in to your account until you're on a newer supported OS version. Updating your operating system is quick and easy and usually takes a few minutes.

How to find which version OS version you're on

‍

Apple

• On Apple devices you can double check this on your phone by navigation Settings > General > About and look for ‘iOS Version'.   
• Apple offers a guide to find the software version on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Android

• You can usually find your Android OS version via your device navigation by Settings> About Phone > Device Details and look for ‘Android version’. 
• Google offers a guide on how to check and update your Android version.

Note: Android runs on many different devices like (Samsung, Google or Motorola) so exact menu steps may vary slightly depending on your phone.

How to update your OS version

‍

Apple

• It’s easy to update your phone, simply open your device, go to your device’s Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
• Apple offers a clear and simple guide here, which also covers how to switch on automatic iOS updates.

Android 

• To update your Android OS, go to your device’s Settings > System > Software updates. You’ll see a prompt, and also an option to turn on automatic updates so you will always be on the latest secure version.
• Google offers a guide on how to check and update your Android version.

Note on older devices 

‍

Apple and Google usually only support devices’ software for about 10 years, when a phone or tablet is older than this it typically won't be able to run the latest OS. 

‍

If you follow the steps above and can’t see any prompts to update, your device might be too old to support iOS 17 or Android 10, in which case you would need a newer device to continue using Chip.

Why are we doing this?

Your device’s software is powered by an Operating System (OS), which is either built and maintained by Apple (iOS), or Google (Android).

‍

Apple and Google regularly release new versions of iOS and Android to make your phone run better and protect you against security threats. The latest versions are iOS 26 or Android 17.

‍

Apple no longer maintains or releases security updates for older versions which means we can’t guarantee the security of Chip accounts using our app on devices running old versions.

What if you can't update?

‍

Your money will still be safe, and your account will remain open and secure. But to access your account or withdraw your funds, you'll need to email us directly at hello@getchip.uk and complete additional security checks.

‍

You can access your account via the app again at any time using a newer device. 

‍

We understand these changes could cause some inconvenience, but know that keeping your money safe and secure is our number one priority.
